Aerostar SA was founded in 1953 in Bacau and is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. With Elbit Systems it upgraded the Romanian Air Force MiG-21 fleet to the LanceR standard, it has performed maintenance of Romania's F-16 fleet since 2021, and in 2024 it opened Europe's first certified S-70 Black Hawk MRO centre with Lockheed Martin. Its business lines span defence systems for the Ministry of National Defence, aerostructures manufacturing and civil Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 MRO, with about 1,700 employees.
