The 20 companies listed here are the largest of the 83 European prime contractors and major subsystem houses tracked in the FieldFaster dataset, with the biggest industrial clusters in Germany (14 companies), France (9) and the United Kingdom (8). Together they anchor the procurement programmes that the four gates of defence funding lead to.
Every entry is a short factual profile compiled from public sources: what the company builds, where it is based and when it was founded. The ranking favours industrial scale and breadth, ordering companies by headcount band first, capability breadth second and company age third. No revenue figures are used.

Patria is Finland's national defence champion, owned 50.1% by the Finnish state and 49.9% by Norway's Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. Its product lines include the AMV 8x8 and Patria 6x6 armoured wheeled vehicles, the NEMO and AMOS mortar systems, and life-cycle support for the Finnish Air Force fleet including F-35 component manufacturing. The group traces its roots to the 1921 state aircraft factory, was consolidated in its current form in 1997, and employs about 3,700 people with 2024 revenue of 826 million euros. Patria also holds 50% of the Nordic ammunition maker Nammo.

Insta Group is a Finnish family business founded in Tampere in 1960 and a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces. It supplies command and control systems for intelligence, surveillance and target acquisition, and has worked in aircraft maintenance since 1972, now building life-cycle support for the avionics of Finland's F-35 fleet. Lockheed Martin selected Insta to host Europe's first MLRS and HIMARS fire control sustainment centre at its Tampere site. The group employs more than 1,000 people.

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Ozarow Mazowiecki near Warsaw, WB Group grew from WB Electronics into one of Europe's largest privately held defence contractors, spanning companies such as Flytronic and Radmor. Its FlyEye reconnaissance UAV is flown by the Polish Territorial Defence Force and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, its Warmate loitering munition is used by Ukraine, and the FONET vehicle communication system has been licensed to L3Harris for the US armed forces. The group supplies the TOPAZ artillery fire control system, a Polish Army standard, and employs over 2,600 people.

A December 2025 Lockheed Martin MoU covers rocket artillery on Hungarian vehicles.
