Countermeasures and energetics group headquartered in Romsey, Hampshire, with roots going back to 1905. Chemring is a dominant supplier of expendable countermeasures such as flares and decoys to the UK and US armed forces, holding around half the global flare market by 2010, and produces propellants, pyrotechnics, missile components and initiators for space programmes. Its Sensors and Information segment, including Roke, covers electronic warfare and biological detection; the London-listed group employs around 2,800 people.
