BWI

State-owned IT systems house running and modernising the Bundeswehr's information technology.

BWI is the federally owned IT systems house of the Bundeswehr, founded in 2006 as part of the HERKULES public-private partnership with Siemens and IBM and fully owned by the Federal Ministry of Defence since 2016. Headquartered in Meckenheim, it is responsible for operating, expanding and maintaining a large part of the IT systems of the German armed forces and the defence ministry, describing itself as the digitalisation partner of the Bundeswehr in peace, crisis and war. BWI employs around 8,000 people.
