FN Herstal designs and manufactures small-calibre weapons and integrated weapon systems, including the FN MAG and FN MINIMI machine gun families, deFNder remote weapon stations and podded airborne gun systems for helicopters and light aircraft. Founded in 1889 in Herstal near Liege, it employs around 3,000 people and is the defence core of the FN Browning Group, wholly owned by the Walloon Region since 1997. Its weapons equip armed forces across NATO and beyond on land, air and naval platforms.
