Heckler & Koch was founded in Oberndorf am Neckar in December 1949 by former Mauser engineers Edmund Heckler, Theodor Koch and Alex Seidel. It describes itself as the leading manufacturer of small arms for NATO and EU countries, supplying rifles, pistols, submachine guns and machine guns to the Bundeswehr and other NATO and allied armed forces, with subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, France and the United States. The company reported revenue of about 305 million euros in 2022 and employed about 1,150 people in 2023.
