John Cockerill Defense is the defence arm of the Seraing-based John Cockerill engineering group, whose origins date to 1817. It produces the Cockerill family of modular gun turrets in calibres from 25 to 120 mm and Agueris crew training simulators. In 2024 it completed the acquisition of French military vehicle maker Arquus from Volvo Group, adding armoured vehicle design and production, with the combined business targeting around 2,000 staff and 1 billion euros in annual turnover by 2026. The Belgian and French states each took a 10 percent stake in John Cockerill Defense alongside the deal.
