TKMS, formerly thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, was formed in January 2005 when thyssenkrupp consolidated HDW in Kiel with Blohm+Voss and Nordseewerke. The group builds conventional submarines and naval surface vessels through divisions for HDW-brand submarines, MEKO surface vessels and the sensor systems house ATLAS ELEKTRONIK. It was spun off and listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on 20 October 2025, with thyssenkrupp retaining a 51 percent stake, and reported an order backlog of about 20.6 billion euros as of March 2026.
