Cambridge Aerospace closes €259.7M Series C at €2.94B valuation to scale interceptor output

Cambridge Aerospace, the UK-based air-defence startup building low-cost interceptor missiles for European and allied militaries, announced on 10 August 2026 a €259.7 million ($300 million) Series C at a €2.94 billion ($3.4 billion) valuation, per EU-Startups. The company said proceeds will expand manufacturing capacity against existing and new contracts, and fund new product lines beyond current interceptors. The round lands squarely inside the 2026 pattern flagged by Dealroom and NATO Innovation Fund data: late-stage capital is now more than half of the record $8.7 billion raised by European defence, security and resilience startups in 2025, with air defence and counter-drone effectors leading demand as NATO commits over $40 billion to counter-drone capabilities across the next five years. For founders, the read-through is concrete: interceptor economics, unit cost, magazine depth, and production tempo are now the metrics late-stage investors underwrite, not demo videos.

EDGE Group signals Nordic acquisition push from new Paris headquarters, targets DALO Industry Days

On 17 August 2026, Defence Industry Europe reported that UAE-based EDGE Group is using its recently opened Paris headquarters, launched 11 June 2026 with a Chaillot policy office and a Bordeaux engineering site, to coordinate further European acquisitions, joint ventures and industrial partnerships. Senior VP International Business Miles Chambers named the Nordic region as one of the next target markets and confirmed the group's debut at DALO Industry Days in Denmark, pitching air defence, counter-drone and autonomous systems. EDGE already controls Milrem Robotics in Estonia, Anavia in Switzerland and a stake in Flaris in Poland, with a planned CMD acquisition in Italy and JVs with Fincantieri and Indra Sistemas. Group 2025 order intake reached $7.96 billion with a $20.4 billion backlog. For founders in Nordic autonomy, C-UAS and propulsion, EDGE is now an active strategic buyer alongside the European primes, expect inbound approaches and rising comparable valuations.

EDF 2026 disruptive-tech call runs to 29 September with two-country consortia allowed

The European Commission's EDF 2026 call cycle, opened 11 February 2026, closes for submissions on 29 September 2026, with results expected in April 2027 according to Business Finland's national gateway page. The EDF-2026-LS-DIS non-thematic disruptive-technology call, published in V1.0 on 3 March 2026 via DG DEFIS, uniquely allows consortia of just two entities from two EDF states rather than the standard three-from-three rule, and is delivered as a lump-sum grant. The 2026 work programme also includes EDF-2026-RA research actions funded up to 100 percent of eligible costs, and an invitation-based direct award on countering hypersonic glide vehicles under EDF-2026-RA-EUCI-IBA-DS-AIRDEF-CHGV. Development actions remain capped below 100 percent, and SME beneficiaries retain access to EDF business coaching. For founders, the disruptive-tech track is the lowest-friction EDF entry point: two co-founders in two member states, a lump sum, and a clean September deadline still hittable this cycle.

German loitering-munition supply base widens as Rheinmetall FV-014 framework books alongside Helsing and Stark

Rheinmetall confirmed on 22 April 2026 that the Bundeswehr signed a framework contract for FV-014 loitering munitions, with an initial call-off worth approximately €300 million gross booked in April 2026, qualification from Q2 2026 and deliveries starting in the first half of 2027. The framework carries an optional five-figure quantity of autonomous recce and strike drones with 100 km range, manufactured entirely within the EU. That contract sits alongside the 25 February 2026 Bundestag budget committee approval of an initial €540 million tranche split roughly evenly between Helsing (HX-2, ceiling up to €1.46 billion) and Stark Defence (Virtus, ceiling up to €2.86 billion), with the combined programme trajectory reported by TURDEF at up to €9 billion. Delivery prioritises the German brigade in Lithuania by end-2027. For founders in payloads, seekers, datalinks, propulsion and MRO, Germany now runs three parallel primes; qualify as tier-2 supplier to at least two to hedge program risk.
